Creating a Directory Website using Google Sites

Last week, I launched a redesign of a GIS directory website gisinindia.com. I have had this domain for a long time and was running a wiki site powered by PmWiki. But it was a bit cumbersome to maintain and I didn't want to pay for hosting if I could avoid it. In considering the alternates, I settled on Google Sites. I am sharing my experiences and some tips here for anyone who might want to consider using Google Sites for a directory-like website.

India’s first FOSS4G - India conference was organized on 25-26 October, 2012 at Hyderabad. This was a surprisingly low-profile event and there was very little buzz about it on the internet.
